Calculate your Emissions

co2balance.com Carbon Calculator Supporting Blackpool International Airport Woodland

At Blackpool International we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment and are delighted to have joined forces with co2balance.com to launch a new on-line Carbon Calculator.

The new calculator assesses the amount of carbon dioxide a journey creates and offers our passengers and staff the option to offset their flights by supporting a tree planting scheme at Sand Martin Wood near the village of Faugh in Cumbria.

Scientific evidence is growing that man-made greenhouse gas emissions are having an effect on the earth's climate, and it is currently estimated that air travel accounts for around 2-3% of total global emissions.

Blackpool International recognises that aviation, alongside other industries has a responsibility to minimise the impact of our activities on the environment, and that action to address this needs to be undertaken sooner rather than later.

In line with our environmental strategy, Blackpool International has linked up with co2balance.com, the only carbon management company to be undertaking a forestry project on its own land.

Sand Martin Wood is halfway between The Lake District and the Northumberland National Park and was acquired by co2balance.com in 2006. The wood gets its name from the large colony of Sand Martins that nest in the sandy hillside. A mix of native UK, broad leafed trees will be planted here over the next two years including oak, ash, beech, willow, cherry and field maple as well as thorn, hazel and viburnum.

The airport has been designated an area of woodland and by our passengers and staff choosing to offset their carbon footprint, this will contribute to the tree planting scheme. The airport's Operations Director, Stephen Wiltshire has already planted a number of saplings and members of the public are welcome to visit and see for themselves the great work being undertaken.

Blackpool International Airport is proud to support the carbon offset scheme run by co2balance.com and we will be offsetting business travel in this way.

Please use the carbon calculator on our website to assess the carbon dioxide your journey produces and the amount of money you could contribute to offsetting (minimum offset payment is £2).
